What Is Mental Health First Aid?

Adult Mental Health First Aid (AMHFA) is an internationally recognized program that trains individuals to identify, understand, and respond to mental health challenges. Course Format:

Part One: Pre-Work

  • Approximately two weeks before the live-taught course, learners receive an email with a link to a self-guided module.

  • This pre-work takes about two hours to complete and must be finished prior to the instructor-led session.

Part Two: Instructor-Led Session

  • Learners will attend the live-taught course.

  • Course length: 6–8 hours, based on virtual or in-person format.

  • The interactive session covers the official, unaltered curriculum—including online access to the official Mental Health First Aid Manual and Participant Processing Guide within the MHFA system (view-only). Printed copies are available as an optional add-on.

  • Upon completion, participants are certified in Mental Health First Aid for three years.
