What no one tells you about being a #BOSS
One of the things that doesn't seem to be talked about much when it comes to working from home or being your own boss- whether it be building your own business, working a network marketing business or telecommuting- is how isolating it can be. There's little to no commute time, there's no one to converse with on a regular basis {not including your family}, friends and family just don't "get it" sometimes and if we're not careful {ESPECIALLY if you're an introvert like me} there's the slump of realizing oh crap, I haven't left the house in days because I haven't had to.
When I started working from home in 2011 after my knee injury, I thought working from home would be more like
waking up whenever I wanted to
wearing my jammie's all day and
everyone would come flocking to me wanting what I had, especially my family and friends.
What it's actually like is
trying to find and maintain some semblance of 'work-life balance''
creating new boundaries and routines for both myself and my family
finding balance in my passion and remembering to turn it off sometimes and not letting it consume me
remembering to be still and take care of myself and allow myself to rest, receive and be in creative mode
lots of trial and error
What I've learned over the past 6 years is that staying balanced and connected is more about flexibility and freedom. I feel so much more balanced when I allow myself flexibility on how things show up, how I get them done and room to go with the flow. It doesn't mean that I'm loosey-goosey about what needs to be done which is top of the list of reasons for lack of success. It means doing my best to stay less attached to the outcome and more committed to the bigger picture. Checking in and staying connected with myself each day and adjusting my needs as I go.
Your action for this week is to look around at your environment and switch things up. Move your desk or work space around, add a vase with some summer flowers, schedule a reoccurring co-working date with a friend or colleague, pack up and go find inspiration at the nearest lake or park.
Whatever you choose, share your comments below and let me know what you decided and how it felt after.
