What I've Learned About Balance
As I sat down with my cup of coffee in hand ready to get to work for the day, the dings on my phone quickly started to come in and that thing called life started to happen. A sweet friend that I haven't talked to in awhile was calling to catch up, my phone was going off with messages about an upcoming event and there was an unexpected knock at my door.
I hadn't even started for the day and I was all ready feeling bombarded, off balance and my coffee was cold. This was not how I had planned to spend my morning nor was this the energy I wanted to carry into the rest of my day. I quickly realized what had happened and readjusted...I didn't protect my boundaries.
Finding balance isn't about managing time or your to-do list, it's about managing your boundaries.
It's about having a clear sense of what's important to you, important in that moment and why and then making choices based on those priorities. Having a clear sense of where you're spending your energy. As much as I wanted to give everyone my undivided attention, I also knew that some of those things would need to wait until later. It's these day to day choices we make that move us forward in life and when we aren't solid in the direction we want to go in, we allow room for everyone else's agenda to overshadow our own.
Two quick tips to help stay grounded and keep boundaries in check
♥ First, we have to know what they are. What's most important to you today? Where does your focus need to go and what adjustments need to be made?
♥ Practice saying no. It's perfectly ok to say thanks but no thanks and move on without a long drawn out explanation.
